Today’s weather will be blustery and chilly with a high temperature in the teens.
On Tuesday, Dec. 29, the National Weather Service forecast dry and seasonably chilly weather today and into Wednesday, Dec. 30.
A cold front will bring a period of mainly scattered rain showers to the region late Wednesday night into Thursday morning, Dec. 31, New Year’s Eve.
High pressure is expected to build in from the west later Thursday into Friday, Jan. 1, New Year’s Day, bringing dry and chillier weather. A low-pressure system passing to our west will bring more rain later Friday into Friday night, but a period of icing is possible at the onset for portions of the interior.
DAILY WEATHER FOR CENTRAL, WESTERN MASS
Today, Tuesday, Dec. 29, there’s a slight chance of snow flurries this morning, but for the most part, Tuesday will be sunny and windy with a high near 36 and winds blowing 11-18 mph with gusts as fast as 28 mph. The wind will die down in the evening when the weather drops to around 16 degrees.
On Wednesday, Dec. 30, expect to see a cloudy sky and a high temperature of 37 degrees, and a light breeze. In the evening there is a 50 percent chance of snow showers, mostly after midnight. Less than an inch of new precipitation is possible. The low temperature will be about 30 degrees and the winds may whip up at times with gusts as high as 20 mph.
On Thursday, Dec. 31, New Year’s Eve, there’s a 20 percent chance it will rain before 9 a.m., but with a high near 43 degrees ice should not be an issue. Wind gusts could get up to 20 mph. The nighttime will be mostly clear with a low around 20 degrees.
Poor weather may arrive on New Year’s Day, Friday, Jan. 1. There is a 50 percent chance that it will rain, mostly before 4 p.m., and temperatures are expected to reach 38 degrees. Winds will be calm.
The chance of rain increases to 90 percent Friday night. The rain may be mixed with freezing rain and sleet at times with heavier rains predicted after 1 a.m. The low will be around 31 degrees leaving the potential open for icy road conditions.
On Saturday, Jan. 2, there’s a 30 percent chance of rain. Sunny, but cool weather is predicted for Sunday, Jan. 3, and Monday, Jan. 4.
